The original owners<\/strong><\/p>\n The married couple Ferdinand and Vlasta Menger bought a plot of land with a building site in Dejvice, 1852 Komornick\u00e1 Street, in 1934. A year later, they commissioned the construction of a villa to the company of architects Freiwald \u2013 B\u00f6hm, 45 Palack\u00e9ho Street, Karl\u00edn.\n<\/p>\n Mr. Ferdinand Menger was a leading Prague financier. Over the years, he went from a prominent chief accounting executive to the chief executive officer of the Prague Municipal Savings Bank, with its seat in the Old Town Hall and later on the corner of Ryt\u00ed\u0159sk\u00e1 and Melantrichova Streets. In its time, it was Czechoslovakia\u00b4s largest savings bank with over 3 billion crown\u00b4s worth of deposits1<\/sup>.It played a significant role in financing Prague \u00b4s extensive construction projects in the interwar era.\n<\/p>\n At the same time, Menger held other significant offices, especially in the financial sector as the chief accountant of the Surveillance Authority; he was a founding member of Spo\u0159ilov, a building society of savings bank depositors in Prague and Royal Vinohrady2<\/sup>, while also being a member of the administrative board of Melantrich in 1920 \u2013 1929.3<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n The architecture of the villa<\/strong><\/p>\n The villa\u00b4s architects and builders, Jind\u0159ich Freiwald and Jaroslav B\u00f6hm (both were favourite disciples of the prominent Prague urbanist Jan Kot\u011bra), designed a number of financial institutions (Czech Savings Banks in \u010cerven\u00fd Kostelec, in Nov\u00e9 M\u011bsto nad Metuj\u00ed, \u00dapice, \u010cesk\u00e1 Skalice and Hronov), townhouses, residential colonies and theatres in Chrudim, Hronov and Kol\u00edn.\n<\/p>\n In Prague, these architects were the authors of the functionalist building of the Aero Cinema in \u017di\u017ekov and the Aero industrial factory in Karl\u00edn. Later, from 1935, the architects were designing the villas in Bran\u00edk Nad Kostelem 725\/8 (in the administration of the Diplomatic Service), in Vlnit\u00e1 Street and in Mezivr\u0161\u00ed.\n<\/p>\n Jind\u0159ich Freiwald, a great patriot and Czechoslovak reserve officer, became involved in anti-Nazi resistance during World War II and as a captain of the Czechoslovak Army participated in the Prague Uprising.
